Westminster Dragoons uniform button in anodised aluminium finish, produced in the pattern worn by the Westminster Dragoons (2nd County of London Yeomanry) of the British Army between approximately 1958 and 1961. This British Army yeomanry uniform button displays the recognised regimental device in clear relief, incorporating the pre-1965 Arms of the City of Westminster as the central device, with the reverse carrying a shank loop for attachment. The composition reflects the civic associations of the regiment and its long connection to the City of Westminster, established at the regiment’s reformation in 1902.

The regiment was formed on 24 August 1901 as the 2nd County of London Imperial Yeomanry, perpetuating the earlier metropolitan mounted volunteer force, and on 2 August 1902 Westminster Council granted permission for the regiment to adopt the subtitle “Westminster Dragoons” and to use the City’s coat of arms as its regimental badge device. The portcullis and Tudor rose of the Westminster arms carry deep associations with the history of Westminster and the Palace of Westminster, while the lion supporters reflect the civic heraldic tradition of the capital. Anodised aluminium buttons of this pattern were produced from approximately 1958 as a durable alternative to brass and gilding metal for other ranks’ uniform hardware. The regiment was redesignated as The Westminster Dragoons (2nd County of London Yeomanry) in 1951 and amalgamated with the Berkshire Yeomanry in 1961 to form The Berkshire and Westminster Dragoons, Royal Armoured Corps, making the window for anodised buttons in this specific regimental title a narrow one of approximately three years.

Manufactured in anodised aluminium consistent with late 1950s and early 1960s British Army yeomanry uniform button production, this 23mm example provides a clean, well-defined representation of the Westminster Dragoons regimental device. Westminster Dragoons buttons are collected as examples of London yeomanry uniform accessories, regimental insignia of the armoured yeomanry of the Territorial Army, and militaria associated with the County of London Yeomanry regiments.
