A Queen’s Crown period embroidered cap badge for a Petty Officer of the Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRNS), worn from the accession of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 through to the disbandment of the WRNS in 1993. The badge features the fouled anchor within a cirlcet and surmounted by the crowned device, embroidered in blue silk on a dark blue backing, typical of Royal Navy insignia of the period. Badges of this rank and type were worn on the WRNS cap and hat dress, representing senior non-commissioned leadership within the service.
