Original WWI British Army Brass Wound Stripe No. 4, complete with its backing plate. Wound Stripes were introduced in 1916 to recognise British and Commonwealth soldiers who had been wounded in action..

This example is the classic No. 4 pattern, made from stamped brass with its distinctive ribbed design, mounted on the original brass backing plate. The backing plate allowed the stripe to be securely fixed to the uniform and easily removed when necessary.
