Prussian Seitengewehr 1884/98 1st Pattern Bayonet, Dated 1888, originally designed for the Mauser 1871/84 rifle but with the muzzle ring removed so to fit the later Mauser Gewehr 1898. Wood grips held in with bolts, 251mm single-edge, single-fullered blade.
Marked on the spine of the blade “(Crown) W, 88” (Wilhelm I, 1888), with an inspector mark below. Marked on the ricasso “Alex Coppell, Solingen” and on the pommel with inspector marks. Unit marked “84. R. 6. 44” (Infantrie-Regiment 84/84th Infantry Regiment) The scabbard is unmarked.
Condition: Good, blade is lightly pitted. Most of the original finish is worn off of the exterior metal work.
