Born on the 2nd of November, 1890. He initially served in the 1/4th Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) before transferring to the Army Veterinary Corps (AVC). He was later transferred to the reserves on the 10th October, 1919. He served, likely in a civil defence role, during the Second World War, hence the Defence Medal
