An original and fine example of the British Pattern 1897 Infantry Officer’s Sword, bearing the Royal Cypher of King George V (GRV), indicating manufacture and service between 1910 and 1936. This regulation sword was standard issue for infantry officers in the British Army from 1897 to the present day. The blade is full-length and etched with the GRV cypher, surrounded by intricate floral scrollwork and British military motifs, showing clear detail and age-related patina. The guard is the classic pierced steel bowl hilt, also bearing the GRV monogram, with a shagreen grip bound in twisted wire, all intact and in good condition. A Sam Browne brown leather scabbard is present and fits well, as issued for field use.

Etched on the ricasso “HENRY WILKINSON/PALL MALL/LONDON” and etched on the spine “LONDON MADE”. Also stamped on the spine is the serial number “49621”, dating it to 1914.

Condition: Good, some discolouration to the blade with some deep pits towards the bottom of the spine. The leather scabbard has several patches of damage as well as a damaged chape.
Overall Length: Approx. 100cm (blade approx. 82cm)
