An early example of the Norfolk Regiment cap badge, following the 1898–1935 pattern worn by the regiment during the late Victorian and early interwar periods. Constructed in gilding metal and white metal, this piece represents an early manufactured variant.
The badge features the figure of Britannia seated facing left, holding a trident and palm branch, encircled by a laurel wreath, all above a scroll inscribed “THE NORFOLK REGT.” The reverse retains its original brass lugs, typical of Victorian or Edwardian manufacture.
The Norfolk Regiment saw notable service throughout the Second Boer War (1899–1902) and later in the First World War, serving on the Western Front, Gallipoli, and Mesopotamia. This badge design remained in use until the regiment’s “Royal” title was added in the 1930s.
