17mm brass button of the Victoria Military Forces, dating from the 1880–1892 pattern, issued during the late colonial period of Australia prior to the motto change from “AUT PACE AUT BELLO” to “PRO DEO ET PATRIA” and later Federation in 1901. Buttons from this era are increasingly scarce and highly collectable.
