A collar badge of the 2nd Hertfordshire Rifle Volunteer Corps dating to around the early 1880s, produced to the short-lived pattern worn following the 1881 reorganisation of the British Army Volunteer units. The badge reflects the typical Rifle Volunteer styling of the period, featuring a Hert trotting in white metal. Pieces from this era are comparatively scarce owing to the relatively brief period of issue and subsequent absorption of Volunteer units into later Territorial formations.
Made in white metal with good period definition, the badge would have been worn on the collar as part of a facing pair on the Volunteer uniform.
