South African Special Service Battalion (SSB/SDB) Button – 25mm button, manufactured during the operational period of the force from 1943-1963. Measuring 25mm in diameter, this medium-sized uniform button features the official cap badge design, executed in brass.

Formed as a unit to give training to youths, between the ages of 17 and 23, who, in the wake of the 1929 depression, could find no suitable employment on leaving school. This button would have been worn on service dress tunics by enlisted personnel or NCOs.

Condition: Very good. Shank intact on reverse.
