Royal Welch Fusiliers cap badge of the pattern worn from 1922 through to 2006, original issue example from one of the oldest infantry regiments in the British Army. This badge displays the regiment’s distinctive device in clear relief, incorporating the Prince of Wales’s feathers with the motto “Ich Dien”, mounted on a flaming grenade and regimental title “Royal Welch Fusiliers” in a circlet, all executed in a bi-metal finish characteristic of period manufacture.
The Prince of Wales’s feathers reflect the regiment’s long-standing association with the heir apparent, while the flaming grenade is a traditional infantry emblem denoting service and combat readiness. The Royal Welch Fusiliers, with origins dating back to 1689, served with distinction in numerous conflicts, including the Napoleonic Wars, the First World War, and the Second World War, maintaining a strong regimental identity throughout its history.
Manufactured in bimetal, this original example provides a well-defined representation of the long-serving 1922–2006 pattern. Such badges are widely collected as examples of British Army infantry insignia, regimental cap badges, and twentieth-century military memorabilia.
