72nd Regiment (Duke of Albany’s Own Highlanders) glengarry cap badge, restrike example of the pattern associated with this historic Highland regiment of the British Army. This badge displays the regiment’s traditional device in clear relief, incorporating a thistle spray surmounted by a crown, with scrolls bearing the regimental title “Duke of Albany’s Own Highlanders” and central “72”, all executed in brass in keeping with Scottish infantry insignia.
The thistle is the national emblem of Scotland and forms a central element in the identity of Highland regiments, symbolising resilience and heritage. The 72nd Regiment, later amalgamated into the Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, The Duke of Albany’s), served with distinction in numerous campaigns throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Manufactured as a restrike in brass, this example offers a well-defined representation of the original Glengarry badge pattern. Such badges are widely collected as examples of Scottish military memorabilia, Highland regiment insignia, and British Army cap badges with early lineage.
