Great Eastern Railway (GER) uniform button of the pre-1923 pattern, associated with one of Britain’s pre-grouping railway companies before its incorporation into the London and North Eastern Railway following the 1923 grouping. This 28mm button features the company’s recognised device in clear relief, incorporating a wing within a garter star with the full company title “Great Eastern Railway” encircling a central motif, all executed in white metal consistent with railway staff and officer uniform fittings of the period.
The Great Eastern Railway operated extensively across East Anglia and into London, playing a significant role in regional transport, commerce, and development during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Buttons of this type were worn by railway staff, including guards, station officials, and officers, forming part of formal uniform dress and company identity.
Manufactured in white metal with a loop shank fitting to the reverse, this example provides a well-defined representation of historic British railway insignia. Great Eastern Railway buttons are collected as examples of railway memorabilia, transport history, and Victorian and Edwardian uniform components.
