German Luftwaffe enlisted men’s (EM) or non-commissioned officers’ (NCO) belt buckle with an associated leather belt, dated 1938, and representative of pre-war manufacture. This type of buckle follows the standard 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe design, formed in steel, featuring a central eagle in flight clutching a swastika and enclosed in a wreath. The reverse of the buckle incorporates a 2-pronged catch and bar fitting.
The accompanying leather belt is constructed from brown leather, with a nickel buckle hook affixed to one end and a series of adjustment holes along the length. The interior of the belt bears some indistinct stamped markings reading “(???) / HAMBURG / 1938”.
Such belt sets formed part of the standard service uniform worn by Luftwaffe personnel during the late 1930s and throughout the Second World War. Variations in materials, construction, and markings provide useful reference points for study and comparison.
Dimensions
Buckle approx. 65mm width
Belt length: approx. 94cm
Condition
Acceptable. The buckle shows surface wear, oxidation, and very little finish; however, the details remain strongly visible. The leather belt exhibits age-related wear and creasing, as well as restitching to the adjustment strap, with markings semi-legible.
