The Mk. IV oil bottle was part of the standard cleaning kit issued with British service rifles, including the SMLE and Lee Enfield No. 4 during the early to mid-twentieth century, including those used throughout the First and Second World War periods. Brass construction provided durability and resistance to corrosion while also allowing for repeated field use.
