Victory Medal, Private Hugh Charles Cooke, 14th (Service) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers
Hugh Charles Cooke was born in 1880 and married on the 26th of March, 1900, in Fishlake, Doncaster. He worked as a builder and contractor before enlisting on the 10th of December 1915 and initially served in the Royal Engineers.
He was posted to the Depot, Royal Engineers, as a bricklayer supervisor, with the rank of Sapper, from the 3rd of November 1916. He was then transferred to Reserve on the 12th, mobilised again and posted for engineer training on the 13th of February, 1917, under the No. 3 Depot Company, Royal Engineers.
He was transferred to the 14th (Service) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, on the 8th of September 1917 as a Private, but was transferred back to the Royal Engineers Depot as a Sapper on the 7th of January 1918. He then transferred to 32 RE from the Depot on the 13th of February 1918 and discharged on the 20th of March 1919
