7th (The Princess Royal’s) Dragoon Guards (7DG) brass shoulder title (pre-1922 pattern), original example of British Army regimental insignia associated with the 7th (The Princess Royal’s) Dragoon Guards.
The shoulder title consists of the regimental designation “7DG” in brass, designed for wear on the shoulder straps of service dress uniforms. Such titles provided a clear indication of regimental affiliation while maintaining the smart and practical appearance required of British Army dress during the late Victorian, Edwardian, and First World War periods.
Shoulder titles of this type were worn by officers and other ranks of the 7th Dragoon Guards, one of the British Army’s distinguished cavalry regiments. Positioned on the shoulder straps of the tunic, they formed an important element of regimental identification and military uniform tradition.
The 7th (Princess Royal’s) Dragoon Guards traced its origins to 1688 and served with distinction in numerous campaigns throughout its history, including the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the Second Boer War, and the First World War. In 1922, the regiment was amalgamated with the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons to form the 5th/6th Dragoons, making pre-1922 insignia particularly desirable to collectors of British cavalry memorabilia.
Manufactured in brass with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an authentic piece of British cavalry history from the period before the post-war cavalry amalgamations.
