Scots Guards warrant officers’ silver and enamel cap badge, an original example of British Army regimental insignia associated with the Scots Guards.
Manufactured in silver with green-coloured enamel, this finely crafted cap badge was worn by Warrant Officers of the Scots Guards as part of their full dress or ceremonial uniform. Produced to a significantly higher standard than standard issue examples, the badge features the regiment’s iconic Star of the Order of the Thistle with the central enamelled Garter and regimental device, reflecting the prestige and traditions of one of the British Army’s senior Foot Guards regiments.
The Scots Guards trace their origins to 1642, when they were raised by Archibald Campbell, 1st Marquess of Argyll for the service of Charles I. Since becoming part of the Household Division, the regiment has served with distinction in nearly every major British campaign, including the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the Second Boer War, both World Wars, the Falklands, Northern Ireland, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Warrant officers occupy the highest non-commissioned appointments within the regiment, serving as senior leaders responsible for discipline, standards, drill, and the maintenance of regimental traditions. Their distinctive silver and enamel cap badges reflect both their senior status and the ceremonial role of the Household Division, where the highest standards of dress and turnout are maintained.
Original warrant officers’ badges are considerably scarcer than standard issue cap badges due to their limited production and specialist use. Their superior craftsmanship, silver construction, and enamel detailing make them particularly desirable among collectors of Guards regiments and British military insignia.
Manufactured in silver with coloured enamel and retaining its original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an authentic and highly collectable piece of Household Division regimental history.
