British PLCE Desert webbing belt, original example of British Army load-carrying equipment finished in the distinctive Desert Disruptive Pattern Material (DPM) camouflage.

Manufactured from heavy-duty woven nylon with Desert DPM camouflage, this PLCE (Personal Load Carrying Equipment) webbing belt formed the foundation of the British Army’s load-carrying system. Designed to support a range of compatible pouches and field equipment, the belt was worn in conjunction with PLCE yokes and utility pouches to distribute the weight of essential combat equipment comfortably and efficiently during operations.

Introduced during the late 1980s, the PLCE system replaced the earlier 1958 Pattern Web Equipment and represented a significant improvement in durability, modularity, and comfort. The Desert DPM variant was developed for service in arid environments and became standard issue for British forces deployed to the Middle East and Central Asia.

This pattern of webbing belt saw extensive operational use during the Gulf War, the Iraq War (Operation Telic), and the War in Afghanistan (2001–2021) (Operation Herrick). It was worn by infantry, armoured units, engineers, artillery, logistics personnel, and specialist branches, forming an integral part of the soldier’s combat load-carrying equipment. Its robust construction and adjustable design enabled it to accommodate a variety of operational roles and personal equipment configurations.

The Desert DPM PLCE system remained in widespread service until the gradual introduction of Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP) equipment from 2010 onwards. Original Desert DPM webbing has since become increasingly sought after by collectors of modern British militaria, former service personnel, military re-enactors, and outdoor enthusiasts assembling complete British Army webbing sets.

Manufactured from durable nylon webbing and fitted with its original quick-release buckle and adjustment system, this example represents an authentic and collectable piece of modern British military field equipment.
