Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) Gilt and Enamel Cap Badge (1953–1970 Pattern), an officer-quality British Army regimental cap badge associated with the Sherwood Foresters during the post-war period. Constructed in gilt and silver-plated metal with enamel detailing, this pattern represents the regiment during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the final years before its amalgamation in 1970.
The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) had a long-established association with Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, tracing its traditions through the historic 45th and 95th Regiments of Foot. The regiment served with distinction during both World Wars and remained an important county infantry regiment during the post-war period. In 1970, the Sherwood Foresters were amalgamated with the Worcestershire Regiment to form the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment.
Gilt and enamel cap badges were associated with officer-quality uniforms and are of particular interest to collectors of British Army officer insignia, post-war regimental badges and Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire military history. The 1953–1970 pattern is especially useful for collections covering the Sherwood Foresters’ final period as a separate regiment.
