27th Lancers Officer’s Button (1941–1945 Pattern), 24.5mm, British Army cavalry regimental uniform button associated with the short-lived 27th Lancers, raised in June 1941 during the Second World War. Formed from a cadre of the 12th Royal Lancers, the regiment served initially as the reconnaissance regiment of the 11th Armoured Division before undertaking overseas service in Italy and Austria. The 27th Lancers was disbanded in August 1945, making its uniform insignia of particular interest to collectors of Second World War British Army militaria.
The officer’s button features the distinctive regimental design associated with the 27th Lancers. The regiment’s insignia incorporated crossed lances with outward-flying pennants and the number 27 beneath a King’s Crown. Officer-quality buttons were produced to a higher standard than ordinary service buttons and formed part of the distinctive uniform worn by commissioned ranks. This example is suitable for collections of British cavalry insignia, Second World War regimental buttons and military uniform accessories.
Dimensions
