Northamptonshire Volunteer Training Corps (VTC) Cap Badge. Original First World War-era British volunteer insignia associated with the Northamptonshire Volunteer Training Corps, formed as part of the wider Volunteer Training Corps movement established in 1914. These local volunteer organisations provided military training and support within Britain while large numbers of regular and Territorial Army personnel served overseas. Members were generally civilian volunteers who undertook training and duties intended to support national defence during wartime.
The cap badge identifies the Northamptonshire organisation within this wider movement. Volunteer Training Corps badges were produced in a variety of local designs, reflecting the names, county associations and organisational identities of individual corps. This original example is of interest to collectors of First World War British home-front militaria, county volunteer units and early twentieth-century military cap badges. The precise design and method of attachment should be assessed from the individual badge and its reverse.
