The Florida National Guard Medal for Faithful Service is an early state military service award recognising long, faithful service in the Florida National Guard. The decoration belongs to the historical series of Florida National Guard service awards and preceded the later Florida Service Badge. It replaced the Fifteen-Year Service Medal, authorised by General Orders No. 14, Adjutant General’s Office, Florida, on 20 May 1906. The award is of particular interest to collectors of early American National Guard decorations and state-issued military service medals.
The gold-coloured medal features a circular central medallion surrounded by a laurel wreath, with the Seal of Florida displayed at its centre. The surrounding inscription reads “FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE” above and “FLORIDA NATIONAL GUARD” below. The reverse is plain apart from the manufacturer’s mark. The medal hangs from a red ribbon with narrow green stripes at each edge. This distinctive design reflects the early development of Florida’s state military awards system and differs from the later Florida National Guard Commendation and Distinguished Service decorations.
