Royal Norfolk Regiment anodised aluminium uniform button, representing the county infantry regiment of Norfolk and its service from the Second World War through to amalgamation in 1959. The regiment descended from the 9th Regiment of Foot, which received the title Norfolk Regiment in 1881 and became the Royal Norfolk Regiment in 1935. It served in numerous campaigns, including the Second World War, where its battalions saw action in France, North Africa, Italy and the Far East. In 1959, the regiment amalgamated with the Suffolk Regiment to form the 1st East Anglian Regiment (Royal Norfolk and Suffolk).
The button is manufactured in anodised aluminium, commonly known as Staybrite, a lightweight material introduced for British military uniform insignia during the mid-twentieth century. The design incorporates the Royal Norfolk Regiment’s distinctive regimental device, featuring Britannia, the traditional figure associated with the regiment since the late eighteenth century. The 19mm size is suitable for tunic uniforms and represents a smaller pattern of regimental buttons. An interesting piece of British Army uniform insignia for collectors of the Royal Norfolk Regiment, East Anglian and Second World War militaria.
