Private Hugh Ashcroft, Durham Light Infantry (DLI)

Hugh Ashcroft was born in 1896 in Witton Park, Durham. He lived in Houghton-le-Spring, Durham and worked as a colliery labourer above ground before enlisting.

He then transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers (service number “80498”) and later to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (service number “4438295”).
