7th Volunteer Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders glengarry cap badge, restrike example of the pattern worn during the period 1881 to 1908 under the Cardwell and Childers reforms of the British Army. This badge displays the regiment’s traditional device in clear relief, incorporating the crowned boar’s head and cat within a wreath, accompanied by the regimental title “Argyll and Sutherland” and title below reading “VII Volunteer Battln”, all executed in white metal consistent with Scottish infantry insignia.
The boar’s head is a long-standing symbol associated with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, reflecting regimental heritage and identity. The 7th Volunteer Battalion formed part of the Volunteer Force, providing locally raised auxiliary troops before the creation of the Territorial Force in 1908.
Manufactured as a restrike in white metal, this example offers a well-defined representation of late nineteenth to early twentieth century Scottish volunteer unit insignia. Such badges are collected as examples of Highland regiment memorabilia, Volunteer Force insignia, and British Army cap badges with Victorian lineage.
