9th Gurkha Rifles cap badge produced as a restrike of the King’s Crown pattern worn by the 9th Gurkha Rifles of the British Indian Army. This Gurkha infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the regiment in clear relief, incorporating the distinctive crossed kukris as the central device, representing the traditional fighting knives carried by Gurkha soldiers, with the numeral “9” below and surmounted by the King’s Crown.
The crossed kukris device became the defining emblem of Gurkha units serving within the British Indian Army and symbolises their long-standing martial tradition and battlefield reputation. The 9th Gurkha Rifles served with distinction in numerous imperial campaigns and during both the First and Second World Wars. Following the partition of India in 1947, the regiment became part of the Indian Army, making earlier British-pattern insignia of particular historical interest to collectors.
