Admiralty Constabulary button (1949–1953 pattern) – 25mm, original example of British police uniform insignia associated with the Admiralty Constabulary. This pattern dates from the post-war period and was worn during the reign of George VI in the years immediately preceding the adoption of the Queen’s Crown in 1953.

The button features the insignia of the Admiralty Constabulary in relief, incorporating a King’s crown and fouled anchor, reflecting the force’s responsibility for policing and safeguarding Royal Navy establishments, dockyards, and Admiralty property. Manufactured in brass, the design follows the traditional style of British police and government service uniform fittings.

Buttons of this type were worn on tunics and other uniform garments by members of the Admiralty Constabulary, serving both a practical fastening function and as a visible indication of service affiliation. The 25mm size was typically used on the front of tunics and other principal items of uniform dress.

The Admiralty Constabulary was responsible for the security and policing of naval installations throughout the United Kingdom. During the post-war period, the force continued its important role in protecting sensitive military infrastructure and supporting the operations of the Royal Navy during the early years of the Cold War.

Manufactured in white metal with an original shank fitting to the reverse, this example represents a distinctive piece of British naval police and government service insignia.
