An original British No. 1 Mk I Pattern 1907 bayonet, manufactured by the Wilkinson Sword Company (WSC) and dated November 1943, complete with its original WW2-era production scabbard. Although designed before the First World War, the Pattern 1907 bayonet remained in frontline service throughout the Second World War, continuing to equip British and Commonwealth forces using the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) No.1 Mk III and Mk III* rifles. Wartime production by Wilkinson Sword ensured sufficient supplies for home defence, training establishments, and Commonwealth forces operating across numerous theatres of war.

The blade is of the standard single-edged design with a full-length fuller running against the spine and features the manufacturer’s markings together with the “11 ’43” production date on the ricasso, along with manufacturing marks “WSC” (Wilkinson Sword Company) and production code “S294”, with the bend test and broad arrow on the other side. The pommel incorporates the conventional muzzle ring, locking mechanism, and wooden grips secured by two screw bolts. It is paired with its original steel-mounted leather scabbard, completing this classic British infantry fighting knife.

The Pattern 1907 bayonet became one of Britain’s longest-serving military edged weapons, seeing extensive service during both World Wars and numerous colonial campaigns. Manufactured by Wilkinson Sword—one of Britain’s premier military sword and bayonet makers—examples bearing wartime dates remain highly sought after by collectors of British militaria, Second World War equipment, and military edged weapons. Original wartime Wilkinson-produced bayonets are particularly desirable due to the company’s reputation for exceptional manufacturing quality.

This example would make an excellent addition to any collection of British military edged weapons, Second World War equipment, SMLE rifle accessories, or Wilkinson Sword Company memorabilia.

Condition

Excellent overall original condition, with little notable wear outside of the pommel and cross guard.
