Cape Town Highlanders Brass Button, 25mm, regimental uniform button associated with the Cape Town Highlanders, a South African infantry regiment established in 1885. The regiment developed a distinctive Scottish identity, drawing on Highland military traditions and adopting elements of Scottish dress and regimental insignia. It served in several conflicts, including the Second Anglo-Boer War and both World Wars, and remains part of South Africa’s military heritage.
The brass button features the central emblem of the Scottish thistle, symbolising the regiment’s ancestral roots and Scottish heritage, surrounded by a circular band displaying the Latin regimental motto: “Nemo Me Impune Lacessit” (“No one provokes me with impunity”) and set against a starburst ray pattern typical of classic military uniform configurations, representing the distinctive uniform insignia of the Cape Town Highlanders. Regimental buttons were used on service and dress uniforms to identify a soldier’s unit and form part of the wider system of military dress insignia. This 25mm example is suitable for collectors of South African militaria, British Commonwealth regimental buttons, Highland regiment insignia and military uniform accessories.
