East Yorkshire Regiment cap badge, original example of British Army headdress insignia associated with the East Yorkshire Regiment. The badge reflects the proud heritage of one of England’s historic county infantry regiments, whose origins can be traced back to the late 17th century.
The badge features the regiment’s distinctive insignia in relief, featuring the White Rose of York in white metal at the centre of a brass Garter Star, overlaid by a laurel wreath. The regiment’s title is inscribed on the scroll below: “East Yorkshire”. The reverse retains its original copper east-west eyed lugs, typical of earlier manufacture and distinct from later wartime issues.
Cap badges of this type were worn on military headwear by officers and other ranks, serving as a visible indication of regimental affiliation and identity. The regiment served extensively throughout the British Empire and earned numerous battle honours in campaigns across the world.
During both the First World War and World War II, the East Yorkshire Regiment saw active service in a variety of theatres, contributing to major British military operations. In 1958, the regiment was amalgamated with the West Yorkshire Regiment to form the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire.
Manufactured in bimetal (white metal and gilding metal) with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents a classic piece of British regimental insignia and military history.
