An original Imperial German Seitengewehr 1898 neuer Art (new pattern) long bayonet, manufactured at Erfurt in 1905. Designed for use with the Gewehr 98 rifle, this updated version of the earlier a/A featured a better grip design. The bayonet is fitted with a long, single-edged, fullered blade with spear point, steel crossguard with swept quillon and open muzzle ring, and grooved wooden grips secured by rivets. The steel pommel incorporates the standard push-button release catch.
The ricasso bears the Erfurt maker’s stamp, while the spine carries the crowned inspection mark and 1905 date. Complete with original steel-mounted scabbard fitted with frog stud and unit marked “121. R. 12. 229” (121st (3rd Württemberg)(Old Württemberg) Infantry Regiment).

Condition
Good. The grip has split and been repaired on one side, but is securely fixed. The blade is clean with light age patina, retaining clear inspection and date marks. The locking catch is fully functional. The scabbard is snapped at the chape.
