Machine Gun Corps cap badge (1915–1922 pattern), restrike example of the iconic British Army insignia associated with the Machine Gun Corps.

Manufactured in brass as a high-quality restrike, this cap badge faithfully reproduces the distinctive design worn by officers and other ranks of the Machine Gun Corps between 1915 and 1922. The badge features the Corps’ famous emblem of crossed Vickers machine guns surmounted by a crown.

The Machine Gun Corps was formed in October 1915 during the First World War to centralise the operation of machine guns within the British Army. Before its creation, machine guns were allocated to individual infantry battalions, but the increasing importance of automatic weapons on the Western Front led to the establishment of specialist units trained in their tactical deployment.

Throughout the First World War, the Corps earned an exceptional reputation for discipline and effectiveness, serving in every major theatre of operations. Machine Gun Corps companies provided sustained fire support during battles, including the Somme, Arras, Passchendaele, Cambrai, and the Hundred Days Offensive. Their hazardous role and heavy casualties gave rise to the Corps’ sombre nickname, “The Suicide Club”.

Following the post-war reduction of the British Army, the Machine Gun Corps was disbanded in 1922, with its remaining responsibilities transferred to infantry and cavalry units. As a result, original cap badges are highly sought after by collectors, and quality restrikes provide an excellent opportunity to own and display one of the most recognisable badges of the First World War.

Manufactured in gilding metal with attachment fittings to the reverse, this restrike accurately reproduces the appearance of the original wartime pattern and is ideal for collectors, historians, displays, and re-enactment.
