Naval General Service (NGS) Medal – ERII, a miniature example of the British Naval General Service Medal bearing the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The Naval General Service Medal was introduced in 1915 and was awarded for qualifying naval and Royal Marines service in specified campaigns and operations. The later Queen Elizabeth II version represents the continuation of the award during the post-war period and is of interest to collectors of Royal Navy medals, Royal Marines insignia, British campaign medals and miniature medal groups.
The miniature medal replicates the design of the full-size Naval General Service Medal in a reduced format for wear with miniature medals on formal evening dress. Examples are particularly useful to collectors assembling miniature groups, researching naval service awards or completing Royal Navy and Royal Marines medal displays. The medal is supplied as a miniature and should not be confused with a full-size campaign medal.
