Rhodesian Air Force officer’s uniform button, 23mm size, associated with the air arm of the former state of Rhodesia. This button features the service’s recognised device in clear relief, typically incorporating an eagle surmounted by a lion and tusk, all executed in gilt metal consistent with mid-twentieth century military uniform fittings.
The Rhodesian Air Force, established by South Rhodesia and continuing thereafter, played a significant role in regional operations and internal security during the mid to late twentieth century. The crown motif reflects earlier service under the British Crown prior to the adoption of republican insignia. Buttons of this type were worn on service dress and formal uniforms, denoting branch affiliation within the armed forces.
Manufactured in gilt metal with a loop shank fitting to the reverse, this example provides a well-defined representation of African military aviation insignia. Rhodesian Air Force buttons are collected as examples of Commonwealth and post-colonial militaria, air force memorabilia, and uniform components.
