Royal Gloucestershire Hussars officer’s button, a 17mm British Yeomanry cavalry uniform button associated with the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars and the county’s long tradition of volunteer mounted service. The regiment formed part of the British Yeomanry and Territorial cavalry structure, maintaining the traditions of Gloucestershire’s locally raised mounted forces.
The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars have a long history extending back to the late eighteenth-century volunteer cavalry movement, with the regiment serving in various forms through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. During the First and Second World Wars, members of the regiment served in both mounted and dismounted roles as military requirements changed. Regimental buttons such as this provided a distinctive means of identifying the wearer and reinforced the separate identity of the Yeomanry regiment.
This officer’s button is of interest to collectors of British Yeomanry insignia, cavalry buttons, Territorial Force militaria, Gloucestershire military history and Royal Gloucestershire Hussars memorabilia. It is suitable for collections covering British volunteer cavalry, Yeomanry uniform and county regimental insignia.
