Royal Sussex Regiment (ROYAL SUSSEX) (1902-20 Pattern) Curved Shoulder Title

An original curved brass shoulder title for the Royal Sussex Regiment, dating to the 1902–1920 pattern period.
This title displays the full regimental name “ROYAL SUSSEX” in bold, serifed block capitals, arched to follow the line of the shoulder strap. It would have been worn by other ranks on the service dress uniform throughout the Edwardian era, First World War, and into the immediate post-war years.

Manufactured in solid brass, the reverse is fitted with two original copper lugs (loops) for attachment, typical of early 20th-century British Army shoulder titles. This pattern was introduced following the reorganisation of British Army uniforms in 1902 and was used until shoulder titles were largely phased out or replaced by regimental numerals and cloth titles in the 1920s.

The Royal Sussex Regiment served with distinction in WWI, including major actions on the Western Front, Gallipoli, and the Middle East. This title would have been worn by soldiers throughout these campaigns and remains a key piece of regimental insignia from the Great War period.
