Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) collar badges, pair (1923–1953 pattern), original examples of British armoured corps insignia associated with the Royal Tank Regiment.

Manufactured as a matching pair, these collar badges feature the distinctive “Fear Naught” insignia of the Royal Tank Regiment and were worn on the collar of service dress uniforms by other ranks between 1923 and 1953. The design reflects the unique identity of Britain’s armoured forces and the traditions inherited from the earliest days of tank warfare.

The badge incorporates the famous RTR emblem, derived from the traditions of the Tank Corps, which was formed in 1917 during the First World War. Following the war, the Tank Corps was renamed the Royal Tank Corps in 1923 and later became the Royal Tank Regiment in 1939. The motto “Fear Naught” symbolises the courage and determination associated with armoured warfare.

This 1923–1953 pattern was worn through one of the most significant periods in the regiment’s history, including the development of armoured doctrine between the wars and the extensive use of tanks during the World War II. RTR units fought in major campaigns including the North African desert battles, the Italian campaign, and the liberation of Northwest Europe, playing a central role in the success of Allied armoured operations.

Following the accession of Elizabeth II in 1952, British military insignia began transitioning from King’s Crown to Queen’s Crown patterns. As a result, the 1923–1953 collar badges represent the final King’s Crown era of Royal Tank Regiment insignia and are particularly desirable among collectors.

Original pairs of RTR collar badges from this period are increasingly sought after, especially examples retaining matching condition and original fittings.

Manufactured in white metal with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this matching pair represents an authentic and historically significant piece of British armoured corps insignia.
