Royal Welch Fusiliers (RWF) beret cap badge, original example of British Army headdress insignia associated with the Royal Welch Fusiliers, one of the oldest and most distinguished infantry regiments in the British Army.
The badge features the regiment’s iconic flaming grenade emblem in relief, incorporating the traditional Prince of Wales’s feathers and regimental title in a circlet. The design reflects the regiment’s proud fusilier heritage and centuries of military service.
Cap badges of this type were worn on the beret by officers and other ranks of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, serving as a visible symbol of regimental identity and esprit de corps. The beret badge became a prominent element of British Army dress during the 20th century and remained an important expression of regimental tradition.
The Royal Welch Fusiliers traced its origins to 1689 and served in many of Britain’s major military campaigns, including the War of the Spanish Succession, the Napoleonic Wars, the First World War, and the Second World War. The regiment became renowned for its distinguished service record and unique traditions, including the historic spelling “Welch” rather than “Welsh”.
In 2006, the regiment amalgamated with the Royal Regiment of Wales to form the Royal Welsh, bringing together the histories of two famous Welsh infantry regiments.
Manufactured in bimetal (gilding metal and white metal) with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an attractive and highly collectable piece of British regimental insignia.
