South African 8th Infantry (Transvaal Scottish) brass button, post-1921 pattern, associated with this South African regiment of Scottish heritage. This button features the regiment’s recognised device in clear relief, incorporating a thistle emblem with a surrounding title, all set within a bordered field and produced in brass consistent with early to mid-twentieth-century uniform fittings.
The Transvaal Scottish regiment, redesignated as 8th Infantry after the formation of the Union Defence Force, retained strong Scottish traditions reflected in its insignia and dress distinctions. Buttons of this type were worn on service and dress uniforms, forming an integral element of regimental identity.
Manufactured in brass with a loop shank fitting to the reverse, this example provides a well-defined representation of South African military insignia. Transvaal Scottish buttons are collected as examples of Commonwealth militaria, Scottish-influenced regimental insignia, and twentieth-century infantry uniform components.
