Tank Corps Officer Service Dress Bronze Collar Badge, 1917–1922 Pattern, an original-style example of early British armoured warfare insignia associated with officers of the Tank Corps. The badge features the distinctive Tank Corps design of a tank within a wreath, surmounted by the King’s crown, and was worn as part of officer service dress during the formative years of Britain’s armoured forces.
The Tank Corps was established in July 1917 from the Heavy Branch of the Machine Gun Corps, following the introduction of tanks on the Western Front during the First World War. The 1917–1922 period covers the Corps’ development from a specialist wartime formation into the permanent armoured organisation that became the Royal Tank Corps in 1923. Bronze officer collar badges of this pattern are consequently of particular interest to collectors of First World War militaria, Tank Corps insignia, British armoured warfare and early Royal Tank Corps history. The badge is especially suitable for collections concentrating on officer uniform and specialist British Army insignia of the Great War.
Dimensions
Approx. 38mm x 29mm.
