Uganda Army anodised button (1962–1979 pattern), a 26mm example of military uniform insignia associated with the Uganda Army during the early post-independence period of Uganda. This pattern dates from independence in 1962 through to the reorganisation of the Ugandan armed forces at the end of the 1970s.
The button design features the national military insignia in relief, incorporating state and military symbolism used by the Uganda Army during this period. The anodised finish provides a bright appearance while reducing the need for regular polishing, reflecting broader mid-20th century military uniform manufacturing practices.
Buttons of this type were worn on service dress and other uniform garments by personnel of the Uganda Army, serving both a practical fastening role and as a visible indicator of military affiliation. The 26mm size corresponds to use on tunics and outer garments where larger buttons were required.
This period covers the formative decades of Uganda’s post-colonial military history, during which the army evolved from former colonial military structures into an independent national force. Uniform insignia from this era reflects both continuity with Commonwealth military traditions and the development of a distinct national identity.
Manufactured in anodised metal with a shank fitting to the reverse, this example represents a collectable piece of East African military insignia from the mid-20th century.
