An original US military issue 18-inch machete, manufactured by the Ontario Knife Company and dated 1943. Produced during the Second World War, this regulation machete was standard equipment issued to American troops, paratroopers and marines operating in jungle and field conditions. The machete features a heavy, single-edged blade with a flat back. The full tang is fitted with two-piece black composite grips, secured by steel rivets. Designed for clearing vegetation, field use, and utility work, these machetes saw widespread issue in both the Pacific and European theatres.
Stamped on the blade “Ontario Knife Co. / 1943” and the standard “US” on the ricasso.
