Soviet Russian 70th Anniversary of the Red Army medal, original commemorative decoration issued by the Soviet Union to mark the seventieth anniversary of the founding of the Soviet Armed Forces and the historic Red Army.
Instituted in 1988, the medal commemorated the establishment of the Red Army in 1918 and was awarded to serving members of the Soviet Armed Forces, veterans, and other eligible personnel who had rendered military service to the Soviet state. It formed part of a long tradition of Soviet commemorative awards recognising significant anniversaries and milestones in military history.
Unlike decorations awarded for specific acts of bravery or service, the 70th Anniversary Medal was primarily a commemorative award recognising military affiliation and contribution to the armed forces. It was issued during the final years of the Soviet Union and therefore represents one of the last major anniversary medals awarded before the dissolution of the Soviet state in 1991.
Examples of this medal are popular with collectors of Soviet militaria due to their historical context and association with the closing years of the Soviet era. Medals retaining their original ribbon, suspension, and accompanying documentation are particularly desirable.
Manufactured in gilt metal and suspended from its original ribbon mount, this example represents an attractive and historically significant piece of late Soviet military history.
Condition
Good overall original condition, with clear detailing and light age-related wear. Minor surface marks, handling wear, and signs of storage may be present. The original ribbon remains intact and may show slight fading consistent with age. No significant damage or repairs are evident unless otherwise noted.
