An exceptional example of a Victorian-era British Pattern 1897 Infantry Officer’s Sword, complete with its original nickel-plated steel scabbard and manufactured by the respected outfitter John Jones & Co. This regulation sword, firstintroduced in 1897 and still in ceremonial use today, would have originally featured a finely etched single-edged, fullered blade, decorated with scrolling foliage, the royal cypher of Queen Victoria (VR), and the retailer’s name etched on the ricasso.

The ornate pierced steel Gothic hilt guard incorporates the crowned royal cypher, and the sharkskin grip is bound with wire.

A must-have for serious collectors of Victorian military swords, British Army officers’ edged weapons, or John Jones & Co. marked pieces, this sword represents the prestige and formality of the late Victorian officer class.

The spine is stamped with the serial number “2258”.

Condition: Acceptable, all of the metal work on the sword has been nickel-plated, which is peeling at the point of the blade. The grips, however, are in excellent condition. The scabbard has also been nickel-plated.

Dimensions:
Total Length (out of scabbard): approx. 98cm (38.5 inches)
Blade Length: approx. 81.5 cm (32 inches)
