An original British J. Harrison billhook with an 8-inch blade. Billhooks of this type were widely employed by military pioneer units, engineers, and agricultural workers for cutting brush, hedge-laying, and general field use. This example has a heavy, single-edged, curved blade with a squared back and a hooked tip, stamped with the maker’s mark J. Harrison, Warranted as well as the trademark “IH”. The handle is of hardwood, secured to the blade by a rivet.
