This long-serving pattern spans the regiment’s formation following the Childers Reforms of 1881 through to its amalgamation into the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment in 1992.

The button design features the regiment’s distinctive device of a royal tiger and a Hampshire rose in a wreath. The brass construction reflects traditional British military uniform manufacture, intended for regular polishing and long service use.

Buttons of this type were worn on tunics and other uniform garments by officers and enlisted personnel of the Royal Hampshire Regiment, serving both a practical fastening function and as a visible indicator of regimental identity.
