Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders officer’s gilt button (1901–1953 pattern), 19mm, original example of British Army regimental uniform insignia associated with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders.

Manufactured in gilt metal to officer quality, this 19mm uniform button bears the distinctive regimental device of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and was worn on officers’ service dress, mess dress, and ceremonial uniforms between 1901 and 1953. Privately purchased by officers, these buttons were produced to a superior standard, featuring finely struck detailing and a rich gilt finish.

The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders traced their origins to 1793, when the 79th Regiment of Foot (Cameron Highlanders) was raised from among the Highland clans loyal to the British Crown. The regiment took its name from the Cameron Highlanders of Lochaber and developed a proud reputation for discipline, courage, and Highland identity.

The regiment’s long history includes distinguished service during the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the Second Boer War, the First World War, and World War II. During the First World War, Cameron battalions served on the Western Front and in other theatres, while in the Second World War the regiment fought in campaigns including France, North Africa, Italy, and Northwest Europe.

This 1901–1953 button pattern spans some of the most significant years in the regiment’s history, covering the reigns of four monarchs and the service of the regiment through two World Wars. In 1961, the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders amalgamated with the Queen’s Own Gordon Highlanders to form the Queen’s Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons), bringing to an end over 160 years of independent Cameron Highlanders history.

Original officer-quality Cameron Highlanders buttons are highly desirable among collectors of Scottish military insignia due to their superior manufacture, attractive gilt finish, and association with one of Britain’s most famous Highland regiments.

Manufactured in gilt metal and retaining its original reverse shank fitting, this example represents an authentic and collectable piece of Highland regimental history.
