The Essex Yeomanry originated as a volunteer cavalry formation in 1794 and developed a long association with the county of Essex. In 1921, the regiment converted from cavalry to the Royal Artillery, retaining its regimental identity while undertaking an artillery role. Following the Second World War, it continued within the Territorial Army as part of Britain’s reserve military forces before being placed in suspended animation in 1967.
