An original Victorian-era 1845 Pattern Royal Artillery Officer’s Sword complete with steel scabbard. Likely manufactured in the mid-to-late 19th century, this example features the distinctive single-fullered, slightly curved blade associated with the 1845 pattern, designed for both cutting and thrusting. The hilt comprises a steel three-bar guard with a stepped pommel and would have had a wire-bound sharkskin grip. The scabbard is fitted with twin suspension rings in regulation style.
Dimensions
Blade length: approx. 34.5 inches (873mm)
Overall length (sheathed): approx. 40.25 inches (1020mm)
Condition
Poor. The blade shows heavy pitting throughout with no markings or etching remaining. The steel hilt is also fairly pitted, with the grip binding absent and the sharkskin covering mostly missing. The steel scabbard has rusted through in multiple places towards the chape, and the throat is dented and missing one of the securing screws
